To all of Max's faithful & generous supporters, we are eternally grateful...

UPDATE 11/21: Max was picked up at the shelter this afternoon by Chuck and Jon of Husky Camp!

According to shelter records, Max was tested for mange upon intake but came up NEGATIVE. We're going to have him retested and also do some bloodwork to check for a possible thyroid condition. Max reminds us a great deal of Onyx who we rescued from a Tucson shelter in almost the same condition:

Onyx on day of rescue

Onyx today

Out of the shelter and ready for the rest of his life!

Our profound thanks go out to Chuck and Jon from Husky Camp ~ how they managed to find a vet open on Sundays so that Max could be seen and receive immediate treatment is beyond us! Max was sedated, skin scrapings done, blood drawn and shots (antibiotic and steroid) given.

Sleepy boy

Skin scrapings hurt!

Max's skin scraping came back positive for mange (possibly both kinds) and he was started on treatment immediately. We're going to have to wait until the bloodwork comes back to see if there's anything else we can do for Max. He will be neutered once healthy. He weighed in at 54.6 pounds.

UPDATE 11/23: We received the initial results back on Max's bloodwork. His white cell count is elevated, which indicates an infection (not surprising considering his condition). His thyroid is on the low side, but the vet did not want to start him on any thyroid medication until his other issues had been resolved. Max is on a high calorie diet and is loving the attention he's been receiving (as well as the food, of course). We'll have him checked again in a couple weeks and see what improvements he has made. He's finally on the right road and receiving the best care possible.

UPDATE 11/26: Max is eating well and showing definite improvement already!
