MAVERICK IN A NUTSHELL: Around 2 years old. Very sweet. People and dog friendly. Outgoing temperament; ball driven. | |||||||
We spotted Maverick in a post for a dog in need. He just happened to be in one of our favorite shelters so, even though he wasn't completely white, we thought we'd reach out to see if he would be a good candidate for our rescue. When the first photos came through, we were smitten.
UPDATE 8/2: Maverick was picked up at the shelter this morning by our good friends at Husky Camp. ![]() ![]() UPDATE 8/7: Maverick arrived in Phoenix this afternoon.
UPDATE 8/12: It's Maverick's turn at Doggie District!
Unfortunately, Maverick was not a good match for Doggie District. He did very well with the girls -- and they loved him in return -- but not-so-much with the boys, especially if they challenged him in any way. We're thinking it's still too close to Maverick's neuter surgery and the hormones have not completely left his system (brain) yet, so we're going to take him home, give him a little more time and then try again if Doggie District is willing. He has done very well with the dogs at his temporary foster home with one of our staff members, but we have not had a suitable male to test his play style with as yet.
UPDATE 10/20: Maverick saw the groomer today and looks like a completely different boy! He's no longer a dingy yellow, but a very bright white with a black saddle. He's definitely crate trained now, and "pee-pee" accidents are far and few between now -- at least he's now letting us know when he has to go out, so that's a huge improvement for him. When neglected dogs are left to their own devices, crate and/or housetraining is not the easiest task for them to master, but Maverick is definitely making huge strides in the right direction. He LOVES the outdoors and would probably spend 95% of his time outside if allowed.
Maverick is neutered, up-to-date on shots and microchipped. UPDATE 3/20: Now that Maverick has been neutered and the hormones are definitely gone, he has turned into the sweetest most loving boy! No longer a hell-raiser, Maverick is our "go to" boy when it comes times to play with the females in his foster home...he loves them all. He has tried to make friends with his foster's resident male (an older shepherd), but the senior is not having any part of it. Maverick doesn't react or push, he simply waits and tries again another day. UPDATE 5/31: We decided to give Maverick another try at Doggie District since he's been doing so well at his foster home with the other dogs. He knew exactly where he was when he got out of our vehicle; we haven't seen him this excited in weeks!!
UPDATE 6/4: Maverick came out to the park today to meet some new friends. We're very happy to report that he has been doing well at Doggie District this time around.
Adoption fee $375.00.
