PARIS

Paris was rescued from a shelter in Las Vegas. The shelter listed her as a 5-6 year old purebred German Shepherd who has probably not led a very easy life.

According to Trish, our Vegas GSD person, Paris walks well on the leash. She seems a little shy at first, but overall seems like a very sweet girl. Becky (our Vegas volunteer and Pearl's foster mom) saw Paris this morning too and fell in love with her.

Trish lined up a foster for Paris for a few days, and she was brought to Phoenix on March 13th.

UPDATE 3/13: Paris arrived in Phoenix today! Thanks to Lisa from Vegas and to our favorite transporter and foster dad, Doug, Paris arrived in Phoenix this afternoon and is now safely tucked away in her temporary foster home with Doug. She will need to be moved by Monday, so if you have room for this sweetheart, who just needs some groceries and a lot of TLC, we'd be happy to hear from you. We're awaiting our first foster update from Doug.

FIRST FOSTER REPORT:What a sweetheart!! Paris was a little vocal in the crate on the way home but settled in immediately – I’m typing with only one hand because she will truly play ball until your arm falls off. Looks like she could use a bath and a brush and another 10 lbs or so but otherwise is in good shape. I don’t think she is as old as advertised but I’ll leave that up to the experts to decide. I’ll try her on a walk in the morning ... and will send some pics asap.

FOSTER UPDATE 3/14: We had a good first night – Paris slept on the rug beside the bed for most of the night. She started to pace about 3, so I let her out for a potty break and she settled right back afterwards. We have had our walk and it looks like she has not had a lot of exposure to the outside world – she walked well on the leash but was startled by cars, bicycles, other dogs, joggers, etc but showed no aggression to anything that came within reach. Even after the walk she found the energy for another hour of ball chasing. She is sleeping beside my chair as I write this.

Doug reports that Paris is initially unsure in a vehicle while driving but settles down after 10 minutes or so. She is not a big fan of being left alone in the truck though, even if it is something quick like running in to the store to get a new camera battery. Doug also reports that she was introduced to a bull mastiff over the weekend, and the two got along famously. She absolutely loves the pool. She would stay on the top step but bounced in and out for the whole time. She also wades in to Doug's fountain, so no fear of water.

Paris today (3/23)

UPDATE 3/23: Paris had her official evaluation today and everything that Foster Dad Doug had told about this girl proved itself to be true...and more. She is quiet in the house and yard, alerting (not excessively) when the doorbell rings or when she hears someone or something on the other side of "her" fence that she cannot identify. She approached us without reservation, although she is not quick to allow herself to be petted. She is, as Doug had warned us, the consummate "ball dog" and will retrieve the ball for as long as you have the energy to throw it. She will bring the ball to you and gently place it in your hand (she is careful never to let her teeth touch your hands) or on the ground, and then will sit and wait patiently for you to throw it again.

Ball in the fountain? No problem for Paris.

Foster Mom Wendy reports that she has seen great changes in Paris in the past 10 days. At first, she was very reserved and would barely move around the house or chase the ball. (We believe this is what caused the shelter to put her age at six.) Now that she has settled in, she is beginning to blossom and moves like the wind. We believe Paris' age to be slightly less than what the shelter had guessed; probably around 4 or so. It is obvious that Paris has not spent a great deal of time outside of her own yard as she is startled by passing vehicles and loud noises out on the street. Ongoing socialization is a must for this girl who is just beginning to discover the great big wide world.

Paris is spayed, UTD on shots and microchipped. She's ready to meet you and will be coming out to Boot Camp next Sunday (3/30)!

UPDATE 3/30: Doug brought Paris out for Boot Camp today. She was very vocal in greeting all of the other dogs, but showed no aggression towards them. She was, of course, friendly to all of the people there who wanted to pay her some attention.

UPDATE 5/9: We are going to move Paris to a new foster home with other dogs to see how she does in a multi-dog home with other dogs to play with. After Foster Dad Doug's return to work, Paris had been placed in a home with a stay-at-home mom and twin infants. She initially did very well; she loved the kids and was completely comfortable...that is until the babies developed colic. If you have ever lived with a colicky baby, you understand how stressful that can be to the household. To a dog in transition like Paris, the stress was unbearable and she began acting out and exhibiting traits that she had never exhibited during her time with Foster Dad Doug. In her new foster home, Paris will be crate trained and eased into her new foster family to see how she likes living with some brothers and sisters and a CAT.

UPDATE 5/20: Paris continues to do well in her new foster home. She loves to play with the male dogs who now live with her, but she is definitely an ALPHA female and takes pleasure in bossing the boys around whenever the opportunity presents itself. Thankfully, the boys are very easy going and pretty much ignore her. The ideal household for Paris would be one in which there is an easy going male for her to being in charge of, or as an only child in a household where she is not left alone for long periods of time. She is now completely crate trained, with no accidents; she definitely lets you know when she has to go outside to potty.

Paris is a fairly active girl who would do well in an active household, or at least one in which her person is willing to spend some time playing ball with her and giving her lots of attention, which she craves. She is all about her people and just wants to be the center of your attention.

Paris is available for immediate introductions. She is spayed and UTD on shots and microchipped. A foster, or foster-to-adopt situation is being sought for her.

Adoption fee $195.00.
