PACHECO & TOMMY

Pacheco and her brother, Taz, were surrendered to the Arizona Humane Society in August of 2010 as youngsters (under 2 years of age). We were notified by AHS, and were making preparations to take them in, when the pair was quickly scooped up by HALO and taken to their facility on north 35th Avenue.

Taz & Pacheco

After about a week, HALO made the determination that their rescue was not the proper place for two undersocialized and very energetic German shepherds, and so they reached out to us to see if we would be willing to take on the pair, and we were.

Both Taz and Pacheco found their new homes; Pacheco in November of 2010, and Taz in February of 2011.

Pacheco's adoption

UPDATE 9/2017: Pacheco and her new partner, Tommy, have been in the same loving home since her adoption in 2010. She has been loved and well taken care of by her adopter; and now disaster has struck. Her adopter is being transferred to another country for work. Given Pacheco and Tommy's ages (8+), relocation that includes a 20+ hour plane flight to a foreign country is not in their best interests, and so we have been asked to find these 2 loving seniors a home where they can live out their days in peace.

INFORMATION WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN ABOUT THE DOGS:

Tommy:
  • Age: 9.5
  • Breed: Husky mix
  • Loves socializing with other dogs
  • Loves food as much as he will love his owner
  • Favorite fruit - watermelon. Favorite meal - any meat mixed with dog food, treats - "oh give me all you got"
  • Actually eats out of same bowl with Pacheco at same time (depends on food)
  • Very gentle with people
  • Listens to all basic commands. For ex: if we go running and he is crossing ahead of me, all I have to say is, Tommy, get back. He will instantly change his location and start following me again.
  • Potty trained
  • July 4th fireworks - no worries
  • Loves attention
  • Always excited for a walk, otherwise very calm through out the entire day
  • Does not like water or cats

Pacheco:

  • Age: 8
  • Breed: German shepherd (white)
  • Definitely a meat lover, if provided
  • Die hard fan of fetching - if taken to dog park for fetching, energy doesn't run out
  • Listens to commands
  • Loves to jog/run
  • Eats out of same bowl with Tommy at same time (depends on food)
  • If Tommy is being pet, she will climb next to your hand and poke her nose on your hand wanting attention and will place her nose under your hand
  • You might see her randomly walking up to the owner for some loving
  • Potty Trained - Loves to potty on grass area. When I first got her, she was slightly scared because she was a yard dog and was scared to go outside, I guess that comes with her past history. Later on, I trained her to go outside at same spot with Tommy.
  • She ignores other dogs
  • Doesn't like to be out in dark alone
  • July 4th - Fireworks - she will come find you in the house to sit next to you
  • Shy with new people; fine with people she knows
  • Likes to swim
  • Doesn't like cats

According to their owner, "Both dogs are very adorable. Best part about them is they are calm when you need them to be calm and energetic when you need them to be out and running or in dog park. They both love to have goodies to eat. I will really appreciate if they are not separated as they have been partners in crime for very long time and dogs do go through heavy stress if separated."

Both dogs are in good health. Shots are up to date. Dental work is up to date.

From Tommy & Pacheco's owner: "I love my pets. Only reason I have to give them up for adoption is because my work has been moved out of country. I don't want to fly them out to another country and transit time is 20 to 22 hours and I am scared the way airlines handle pets. I will provide 5 large size Pro Plan dog food bags to kick start and help the new owner. They should last the new kind and caring owner about 3.5 to 4 months easily."

Adoption fee is a freewill donation to our rescue.
