FEMALE IN A NUTSHELL: Sweet & friendly gal, outgoing and loved by everyone who meets her. Age guesstimated to be 3+.
We received a desperate phone call in early April from Lisa, a rescue colleague, regarding Martha, who was in a kill shelter in California. The shelter manager had reached out to her with the following plea,
"I am reaching out in hopes you can issist the CACC with our beloved 'Martha.' 'Martha' is a six year old white spayed German Shepherd. She originally came to us as a stray tied to a pole on January 27, 2022. 'Martha' was then adopted, but eventually returned to us on March 19, 2022, because the adopter stated that 'Martha' and her dog did not get along. While in our care she was so loving toward staff; this is why she was named 'Martha' after Martha Stewart. She loves to be walked and get attention from anyone willing to give. She has never shown any aggression towards staff and continues to be well mannered. 'Martha' loves being a lap dog and loves back rubs, which shows she is very affectionate. ...Please let us know if you can pull her. If you have any follow up questions please don't hesitate to call." The plea ended with, "I don't want to kill this dog. She has my heart."

Lisa said she would arrange the pull and transport to us if we could possibly find room for just one more. Our intake was currently closed due to family matters that currently need our attention; however, we were not willing to let a dog like Martha be killed, simply for lack of space, and so we said yes.

UPDATE 4/14: Thanks to Lisa and Alyssa, Martha was pulled from the shelter and has taken her first steps towards freedom! She will be coming to Arizona in search of her forever home as soon as transport can be arranged for her.

Adoption fee $295.00.
