|Luna was purchased as a puppy by her surrendering owners from a breeder in Las Vegas in 2018 (DOB 08/20/2018). She had been living successfully in a family with two small dogs (a chihuahua and a chihuahua mix), a heeler female, and kids. As time went on, one of the small dogs became older and less tolerant of Luna's puppy ways. He started to constantly growl at her until one afternoon, Luna's patience hit its limit and she lashed out at him. Although there was no harm done, the family was forced to face the reality that a large German shepherd and a small, grouchy chihuahua did not belong in the same household ... the difficult decision was made to surrender Luna, and the search for a rescue began.
Luckily, Luna's mom found our rescue and we made the immediate arrangements to take her into our care. We asked for and received these initial pictures of Luna:
UPDATE 6/14: Luna was surrendered to our rescue this afternoon. She was sweet and happy to meet our staff members -- no problem at all meeting new people, men or women. She did bark at a stranger sitting at a nearby picnic table, but when asked to "leave it," she complied without hesitation. She passed Bert's evaluation with flying colors. Although she didn't know any commands, Bert assessed her to be very smart and should be easy to train in the right hands.
Luna is a petite girl at 53 pounds and would be an ideal running or hiking companion. She's quiet in the house, housetrained, crate trained, up-to-date on vaccinations and generally good with other dogs. She is scheduled for her spay surgery the last week in June and will be microchipped prior to adoption.
UPDATE 6/20: We received a call from a prior adopter and foster mom, Angelina, who offered Luna an immediate foster home and a place to heal from her spay surgery!! Of course, we immediately said yes. Angelina has been part of our team for quite a few years -- she used to come and "borrow" our dogs to go jogging on the weekend; that is, until she adopted her very own girl, Bella, in 2010 after waking in the PetsMart "Pet Walk" with her. Bella is no longer with us, but Angelina's love for the dogs has never waned.
Luna has an appointment with our vet this coming Tuesday; we'll know more about our plans for her future after that, so please check back.
UPDATE 6/23: Luna had her spay surgery today and came thru with flying colors. She has a pretty large incision, so she'll need to take it very easy for the next couple of weeks. Her tail has never stopped wagging.
Adoption fee $375.00.
