LUCY

FEMALE IN A NUTSHELL: Sweet and social girl (people and other dogs) under 2 years of age. Owner surrender due to illness.
After we agreed to take on Chance from another rescue, it seems word got out that there was an organization in Phoenix that rescued white German shepherds ... imagine that? Raffaella with K9 Connection Pet Adoption reached out to us to see if we could help with Lucy. According to Raffaella, they rescue lots of shepherds but are unable to place all of them in California as there are just too many -- a problem with which we are well acquainted. She asked if we would be willing to accept Lucy into our program and sent us the following pictures:

When we asked for details, we were told that Lucy had been surrendered 5 months ago and developed distemper shortly thereafter. She was treated at K9 Connection's veterinarian (a vet who specializes in parvo and distemper cases), where she remained for two months to make sure she was ok. After 2 months, Lucy was released with no neurological side effects whatsoever! She is still skinny, and that's why she is not spayed yet, but she's being given the best of care possible and is gaining weight.

We asked for videos and K9 Connection obliged:

K9 Connection also stated, "She is a very good girl and she does not chew things at all. She loves to be outside with her toys."

Based on her sweet temperament and the photos provided, we agreed to take Lucy into our rescue at the first opportunity.

UPDATE 4/16: Lucy was picked up in Escondido this morning by our good friends, Chuck and Jon, and will be spending the next couple of weeks at Husky Camp until her transport to Arizona in search of her forever home.

UPDATE 5/22: Thanks to our friends at Husky Camp and our transport team, Lucy was transported to Phoenix this afternoon. She's a sweet, friendly girl but lacking in any training whatsoever. She did encounter our resident cats immediately upon entering the home and was fine with both of them. We will repeat the official kitty test once she settles in.
