|How this beautiful boy wound up in a kill shelter in California is anyone's guess. According to the shelter, "Here is a gorgeous, sweet, beautiful dog! Lenny was adopted from us a few weeks ago but sadly returned for having too much energy. He’s 1 year old & he weighs 50.7 lbs. He is really cute, not demanding and he has the best personality! He knows “Sit”!! Also, is learning to play fetch! Whoever gets him will be very lucky."
Imagine that -- a one year old puppy with a lot of energy!!!
Thankfully, Lenny was spotted by our Facebook friend, Kathy J, and arrangements were made to have him pulled from the shelter immediately. Our thanks go out to Barbara E, who went to the shelter this morning, pulled Lenny and transported him to safety. No freedom pics (sorry), but we will have photos on Sunday when Lenny is transported to Phoenix.
UPDATE 2/11: Lenny has arrived in Phoenix!
Lenny is neutered, housebroken, microchipped, good with kids & other dogs, up-to-date on shots and dewormed. He's the complete package for the right family. Ongoing training and socialization are a MUST for this handsome youngster.
UPDATE 2/13: Lenny checked in to Doggie District today to meet some new frienda and have fun!! The little social butterfly had to meet EVERYONE upon entering the facility!
UPDATE 3/12: Kelly, the new manager at Doggie District, has taken a special interest in Lenny! He has been spending a lot of time with Kelly and her puppy (see video), and is receiving lots of special attention and the training he so desperately needs. THANK YOU, KELLY!!
Kelly reports that Lenny has learned to tone down his roughhousing when playing with a smaller dog.
Please remember that Lenny is very much still a puppy and puppies, as a rule, have boundless energy. Lenny has a wonderful temperament and is eager to learn, but his puppy brain isn't always ready to settle down and pay attention - short periods of training, multiple times a day are highly recommended. Very young children are probably not a good fit for Lenny at this point, but once he learns, we can probably place this boy just about anywhere. It's just a matter of time and training; Lenny just needs to grow up and learn.
UPDATE 3/24: Lenny went on an adventure today with Kelly, Tara and Tyrion this afternoon. According to Kelly, "We went to two different farmers markets. He did well. Friendly with everyone. We're just gonna work on our leash manners."
Adoption fee $375.00.
