|Freddie was brought to our attention in early December by Sawyer and Amy's dad, Michael. Listed as "Fruitcake" in a local shelter, we thought sure this handsome boy would find a home for Christmas. But as the days passed, the future didn't look bright for Fruitcake -- nobody likes fruitcake, do they?
According to shelter notes, Fruitcake was approximately 3 years old and 75 pounds. He had been noticed by some people hanging around their work place for several days. One of them took Fruitcake home for the night and brought him to the shelter the following day -- at no time did Fruitcake offer any resistance or show any type of aggression.
We asked our faithful volunteer Sara if she could go to the shelter to meet Fruitcake, and on December 22nd, she did. She couldn't say enough good things about this boy ... whose name we immediately changed to Freddie (for Freddie Mercury of Queen -- well, we couldn't very well call him "Queen" could we?). After hearing what Sara had to say about this boy, we gave her the go-ahead to pull him.
After a morning home visit in Goodyear and introductions at Doggie District in Paradise Valley Mall, we hit the road to meet Sara and Freddie in Casa Grande.
Freddie has taken up temporary residence with one of our staff members, where (unless he finds his Christmas miracle) he will remain for the holidays.
UPDATE 12/29: Kitty and small dog testing day for Freddie!
Freddie is neutered, up-to-date on shots and microchipped.
UPDATE 1/1: We have discovered that Freddie likes to play ball! He found one in the yard today and carried it inside for us to play. We returned the ball to its rightful owner and immediately ordered him a new one from Amazon! Freddie is a gentle soul who just wants your love and attention. His temporary foster mom is definitely in love with this sweet boy. We'll try and get some ball-playing pics (maybe even a video) this coming week once his new ball arrives.
UPDATE 1/7: Freddie saw our vet today for his initial exam and did very well. He weighed in at a perfect 72 pounds and allowed himself to be poked, prodded and examined without protest. The vet was very impressed with him and his gentle demeanor and pronounced him healthy and ready for adoption.
UPDATE 1/10: We moved Freddie to Doggie District today for some socialization and training.
UPDATE 1/10: Doggie District manager Kelly reports that Freddie is having a great time and is playing with any of the dogs that are willing to play with him.
Adoption fee $385.00.
