It's hard to believe that a dog that looks like this can get lost and no one comes looking for him -- or that once his stray hold was up, no one adopted him. But, that's exactly what happened to Duncan. Our thanks go out to Susanne at the shelter who posted Duncan's photos on facebook and then contacted our facebook angel, Kathy J, to see if we had room for him. Susanne also came into the (closed) shelter on Veteran's Day so that our transporter, Tera, could come in on her day off and pick him up! According to Susanne, "he’s more on the mellow side and dog friendly."

Duncan enjoyed the ride with Tera, and thanks her for the lift

Arrival at Crossroads ~ Duncan seems to be a hit with Joe!

UPDATE 11/23: Duncan arrived in Phoenix this afternoon, courtesy of transporters Chuck and Jon and two of our staff members.

Arrival in Quartzsite with Chuck and Jon

Duncan meets Stella, then moves into the house for a kitty intro, where he immediately ran into Kevin, who said NO to Duncan's attempts to say hello -- Duncan did not react or attempt to harm or pursue the cat when Kevin hissed, swatted and then darted under the table

Hermione had no fear approaching and allowing herself to be sniffed ...

... then gave her traditional "boop" of approval

Duncan is said to be about 18 months old. He is now neutered, up-to-date on shots and will be microchipped prior to adoption. Duncan has an invitation for an evaluation at Soldier's Best Friend the day after Thanksgiving. We will definitely be taking pictures of the evaluation and will report back on the results. Please check back!

UPDATE 11/29: We had Duncan evaluated at Soldier's Best Friend this afternoon. He did really well, but the slippery floor in the facility really bothered him. He wasn't as bold as the trainers at SBF would like to see in a potential service dog. When asked to go up a flight of stairs, he hesitated and no amount of coaxing could get him to follow the evaluator. His temperament is lovely, but he's just not confident enough to make it as a service dog.

Good focus

Of course you can put your hands in my food dish!

No problem with the shopping cart

No problem with this surface

Eval done ~ ready to go!

UPDATE 12/3: We moved Duncan over to Doggie District this afternoon to have some fun and meet some new friends. He was immediately smitted by Kelly, the manager.

TRAINING UPDATE 12/9: "I went to Doggie District and picked up your package and did training with Duncan!! He is so sweet!!! When I arrived he was very, very shy and was shaking but he was not afraid of being touched or approached; he just looked like he didn't have any confidence :( but once we got to the park, he opened up!! He was so excited and perky. He wagged his tail the whole time and he LOVED TREATS. He climbed in to my lap multiple times, which was so sweet. He definitely needs training. He isn't awful on leash - he didn't pull - but he just doesn't walk in a straight line and gets very excited and walks back and forth and around you. He knows how to 'sit' really well but that's all. I tried to teach him 'down' but we didn't have any luck until the end when I finally judged him to lay down. That's as far as we got, but I think with time he could be able to be great with training. Just needs someone who is dedicated. He was so loving and honestly one of my favorite dogs I've met so far. Do you know how old he is? Just curious. Here's a pic and video!!"
