Dax comes to us via Faith, the same wonderful lady who brought us Tally. We were so full, with not a square inch to spare, when Faith originally asked us to take Dax, that we (regretfully) had to say no. But Faith gave us some time, and in mid-January, we were able to say YES.

Dax was surrendered to Faith because his family didn't have room for him. According to Faith, "He is 2 years old, friendly, good with kids and dogs. The first owner had him in a yard and didn't give him any attention and was going to put him to sleep because they didn't have time for him. A friend of mine took him because they felt sorry for him but they have him in a small yard and now they say they don't have time for him ... and wanted a better life for Dax."

UPDATE 1/16: Dax was neutered today and is safely tucked away at Crossroads awaiting transport. We are waiting for a foster spot to open up for him so that we can bring him to Phoenix.

UPDATE 1/27: Thanks to our wonderful friends, Michael and Bob, Dax will be brought to Phoenix tomorrow! He will be taking up temporary residence with one of our staff members and will be available for introductions shortly.

UPDATE 1/28: Dax has been picked up in California and is on his way to Phoenix. According to transporter Michael, "Dax is full of energy, ... has a lot of kisses for everybody. He's definitely tired of being caged up. We had a hard time keeping him out of the front seat of the car. He would squeeze through every little opening he could. He definitely wants to play. Dax is a very beautiful boy. He doesn't have single bit of apricot on him anywhere. He's just as happy as can be."

Dax and his traveling companion, Dinah, arrived in Phoenix this afternoon thanks to Michael and Bob.

Dax is first out, followed closerly by Dinah

Both dogs had to "meet" the GSD statue on the porch

Michael and Dax

We're going to give Dax and his traveling companion time to settle in, after which a trip to the groomer and our vet will be scheduled. Michael thought this boy would be perfect as a service dog as all Dax wanted to do was be near him. Maybe there's someone out there who could use a great dog like Dax...

UPDATE 2/7: Dax was evaluated by Soldier's Best Friend this afternoon.

Dax wants to help with the toys

OK with touching by Allison

Soaking up the attention

The A-frame is fun!

UPDATE 2/9: We checked Dax in to Doggie District this afternoon for some playtime.

Jade made him feel right at home

UPDATE 2/14: Dax passed his physical and headed off with new foster, David, this morning. He will begin training as a service dog to a veteran in the very near future. Dax is the third WGSDR dog that has been accepted by Soldier's Best Friend, and we couldn't be prouder or feel more privileged.
