Brittany, the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus Rescue Coordinator, reached out to us about this boy. According to Brittany, "He is really sweet, just getting kennel stressed as they do. I took him out for a long time in the play yard today."

This particular shelter is pretty far outside of our reach, but we were going to do what we could to try and help this boy. Thanks to our ever faithful Facebook friend, Kathy J, transport was arranged in short order and "Buck" (as he was now named) was pulled from the shelter and transported to Crossroads in Rialto to await transport to Phoenix.

UPDATE 6/1: Buck was transported to Phoenix today and has taken up temporary residence at one of our staff members' homes.

Ready to unload in Quartzsite

Happy to get his paws back on the ground

Buck is scheduled for neuter surgery on June 7th. He will also be updated on vaccines and microchipped if necessary. After a suitable recovery period, he will be available for introductions. He sure would love a foster home!

UPDATE 6/7: Buck saw our vet today for his initial exam and neuter surgery. Weighing in at 53 pounds, he is at least 10 pounds underweight, but we will soon remedy that. Doc put his age at 3 years.

Buck is a very sweet boy, but it's obvious that he has had little, if any, formal training. He appears to get along fine with other dogs and, when he met our kittens this morning on his way through the house, he had no idea what to do with them and simply watched as they scrambled away.

UPDATE 6/19: Buck checked in to Doggie District (PV Mall location) this afternoon. After meeting Cheyenne, the manager, Devon (Buck's new trainer) took his leash and guided him through the introductions with several staff members. He was calm and happy to meet everyone. He will begin his formal socialization and training with Devon immediately.

Beginning to relax already with Cheyenne

... and then to Dan

Friends already

Buck, handled by trainer Beth, met some new friends at Doggie District this afternoon

UPDATE 7/10: Buck's stay at Doggie District has come to an end and he has been returned to one of our staff members' homes to continue the search for his forever home. Buck has definitely come out of his shell thanks to the patience and guidance of Beth at Doggie District. We know she will be sad to see him go ...
