|This is Bella...yes, another Bella. Her elderly owner passed away in October and his adult son, who was in very poor health, took care of Bella as best he could. That is, until he passed away in December.
Sadly, it was quite a while before he was discovered and Bella was outside all that time until someone noticed.
We are advocates for seniors so when PACC called to advise that they had just taken in a very thin 10 year old, our Tucson director wasted no time getting there.
Coincidentally, a few days prior we were contacted by a previous adopter who had lost the dog she had adopted many years ago, to advise us she was looking for a mature GSD to fill the void. She was, however going to be away for the holiday week but she managed to meet us at the shelter before her departure for a quick look at Belle.
Long story short: Bella is all snuggled in at her foster's home. She has a potential adopter who should be back in town before the New Year. In essence, everyone loves this ole gal.
We think she's younger than 10..maybe even closer to seven. After doing some research, the shelter determined that Bella had been licensed every year for the past 7 years. The question is, was she a puppy when her owner started licensing her or was she already 2-3 years old? Aside from a sun faded coat and a less than cushy life, she will look closer to seven when she's cleaned up. Living outside in the elements can add, what looks like years, to a coated (long hair) Shepherd; she has an appointment today with a groomer thus it will be several days of checking her out before we set her age.
She is a beautiful long haired Shepherd with an outgoing and confident personality. Please check back for updates.
UPDATE: We have determined that our beautiful lady is between 7 and 7.5 years old, based on info from the 1st year she was licensed by Pima County. Her foster Mom has taken her to many different locations and environments and nothing seems to phase this very balanced gal. She is dog friendly with both small and larger dogs unfamiliar to her and displayed a neutral approach with all.
She had her kitty intro today at her possible forever home and, so far, did very well respecting the hissing cat's space. We will know after her two week trial period if they remain friends at which time her adoption will be finalized.
Adoption fee $175.00.
